Daves Genealogy Web (dgenweb)

dgenweb

This is the start of what I would like to be a genealogy based website where people can swap information and help others with their research. I am hoping to use this blog as an update page for a website incorporating pages with information, valuable links and contacts and also have some forums ( some being fairly generic whilst others being of a more specific family orientation)

James Henry b1909 Moneystaghan, Ireland

22/12/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web - Blog)

Brother in-law has just given me a copy of his grandfathers birth certificate. Already have leads on the family.

James Henry
District registered - Bellaghy, Superintendents registrars district - Magherafelt, County of Londenderry
Date & place of birth - 23 Aug 1909 Moneystaghan
Father - James Henry from Glenore, Labourer
Mother - Annie Henry (formerly Henry?)

James married Rosina Ellen Downey in Brisbane Australia in 1937.

James Married Annie on 4th June 1909, James, Annie and 1yo James appear to have come to Australia 12 June 1911 on the Fifeshire. In the 1911 census (2nd April) it shows the family living with Annie's sister Rose Henry.
Approx birth dates - James 1886, Annie 1880

Now the costly part of the exercise starts, records from Ireland do not come cheap.

Making it hard by doing things backwards

22/12/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web - Blog)

Not enjoying this..... I would recommend to anybody starting out on their family tree to start of slow and make sure they put all information, especially sources etc. into tree as they go, do not do it all later as I have done. I am going through each person individually and inputting sources manually, what fun. The only bonus I can see is the fact that I will get to check all individuals for mistakes even though it will take me months to do it.

Tree is starting to take on shape now with over 1600 people in it and thats after I pruned a few branches that were a little to far away from main branch. Still have not finished Nevell branches but I am still checking a few things on that side as I go.

Tree Updated 21/11/09

21/11/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web - Blog)

Tree up dated, mainly Archdale/Archdall in this update. Has been interesting reading and most of the material I have gotten off The Peerage Site has matched with information from the Archdall family here in Queensland but has a lot of other branches as well. The name seemed to get changed from Archdall to Archdale and back again on a fairly regular basis. Marrying cousins also looked popular.

A little more to go and then some more checking etc then I will get back to the Nevell side.

Archdall's back to 1550

18/10/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web - Blog)

I have found some information on the Archdall side of the family all they way back to John Archdale who died before 1557. They were from England but Johns grandson moved to Ireland. He obtained by Letters Patent on 13 July 1612 a grant of land at Tallanagh, Lurg, County Fermanagh, Ireland on which the old Castle Archdale was built in 1615.

The name change came about with Venerable John Archdale & Elizabeth Donnellan's children,
Frances Archdale
Elizabeth Archdale
Reverend John Archdall - I do not know why.

This family seem to have everything in it, churchwarden, sherif, balif, chamberlain, merchants, clergy, Archdeacon, vicars, goldsmiths, cheif magistrate etc

There is a lot to get through (at least 300 names) so it will be a few weeks before it will be online,

The Woodens an Australian saga

27/09/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web - Blog)

I have just loaded some pages from a book "The Woodens an Australian saga" on the forum, this is the basis of all my original information. There is some good interesting reading on William and Hannah Barron and thier children, about a gold mine and even a shooting.

It is private area and for family only because of copyright.

John Henry 'Jack' Barron

Now in contact with Margaret who is part of John Henry (Jack) Barron's family. Hopefully Margaret has some new information regarding Jack's shooting etc and some more family to put in the tree.

Is great to hear from you Margaret.

Recollections of Samuel Atkins Sallaway

14/06/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web - Blog)

These are some pages that my uncle gave to my mother awhile ago, I do not know where they come from but it is certainly some interesting reading. It is account of his life from childhood (born 1872) in Newington and Bowenfells to his marriage in 1896.

Re- Sallaway Family Get Together

14/06/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web - Blog)

If this reunion comes off next easter and somebody from WA comes over maybe it would be a good time to organize a Barron function as well.

Sallaway Family Get Together

31/05/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web - Blog)

Another Sallaway re-union on the way. I have heard whispers that there is going to be a big do in Warwick next Easter. All the Beachmere crowd are interested in going and hopefully we can get people from all over the country side again.

I for one am very excited about it.

dgenweb Forum / Message boards now online

10/04/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web - Blog)

Forum

I have made a genealogy forum as place where every one researching their family history can connect with other researchers and swap information. It is part of the dgenweb.com group of sites.

There are areas for members to exchange private information as well as the main general message boards. Hopefully with some promotion it should get some memberships. I will start setting up and inviting people from old forum in the next few days. The messages from the old boards are also being transferred over.

If genealogy is of interest to you, register now, it is free. Forum

dgenweb.com up and running

29/04/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web - Blog)

I have finally got my own domain and website up and running. The site is dgenweb.com (Daves Genealogy Web). There is still a lot of work to be done and because I have just copied items of my other sites there are a few links still to be fixed plus overhauling some pages completely.

Over the next few weeks I will finalise the change over and update all pages etc. I am also making a new forum which will be more public (with private members only areas for related people). I am trying to keep every thing under the one banner - dgenweb.

My new email address is dave@dgenweb.com

Vincent & Nevell - New Page

08/04/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web - Blog)

Just added a new page Vincent & Nevell to the website. It is information I have stolen from a google group and is only the tip of the iceberg of what information that is in this group. This page is thanks to a lot of hardwork from Fiona Nevell.

Vincent & Nevell Links A Google Group by Fiona Nevell - For people interested in the life and times of and descendants of James Vincent (1773-1848) & John Nevell (1780-1854). This site contains 500 years of descendant/ancestor information. Members wanted and welcome!
You must be signed in and a member of this group to participate or view its content. You may need to register. There is a lot of great information here and is WELL WORTH registering.

Updates - Susan, Scott, Niven

01/03/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web -Blog)

Congrates Susan on the new bub, I had updated your information on the tree but the new addition is still to be added.

Thanx Scott on your family details (kids birth dates etc), I will update online trees in the next week or so. Of course the names will not be visable to everybody.

I have added some information on the Frid line of the family that was given to me by ....... Niven. There was some good information there and was very interesting and it looks like there might be areas still worth researching particualrly if I can contact .......... Garrett who has been researching the same family on the net a little while back.

What is dgenweb?

01/03/09 http://dgenweb.blogspot.com/ (Daves Genealogy Web - Blog)

My thought was to incorporate web pages, blogs, current updates and forums all in one and have them all under one banner. The name of dgenwebs (Daves Genealogy Web) was available in the google blogger and google sites as well as still being available as a .com and .com.au domains which I will purchase as soon as I decide on a hosting site.

I thought that dgenweb was stepping back from my surname a little bit so hopefully it does not turn people away from it because the are a distant relation with different surname. It should be a little more of a generic genealogy site with more specific families as offshoots.

Thats my thoughts anyway, and hopefully it comes together. There is still a lot of work to be done on the website to make it a little more generic and not just about me, "Rome was not built in a day."

Surnames I am researching
